Synopsis: Soon after the birth of their daughter, Hannah, Elizabeth and Charlie discover that there are only two guardianship lines available on her birth certificate: one for parent 1 and one for parent 2. Against the odds, they take their case all the way to the California courts where a harsh conservative judge from Texas decides their fate. Amidst a backdrop of an emerging AIDS crisis and a growing political debate on family values, The First Three tells a true story of love, determination and perseverance.

ERASED: BABI YAR, THE SS AND ME

Synopsis: Erased recounts the story of the single deadliest massacre of Jews by gunfire in 1941 and its impact on the author’s childhood in a gilded Jewish ghetto in 1950s Chicago. Memory and generational trauma weave narratives about what was done, what was lost, what was erased, and what can be recovered. “Erased” chronicles our reckoning with the past via both storytelling and music.

HOW TO BE HUMAN

Synopsis: When young Marisol tries to find love in the modern world, she meets a marine biologist online and forms a plan to run away with him. Remembering the story of lustful Persephone being dragged down to the Underworld through the cracks of the earth, her mother decides to put new bolt-locks on all of the doors. In a world trapped between reality and myth, Marisol and her mother struggle between their obligations to tradition and their undying thirst for exploration and love.
